ACGME Designated Institutional Official (DIO)

Dr. Chandra Bondugula is an accomplished Graduate Medical Education (GME) leader, serving as the Founding ACGME Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and Director of Graduate Medical Education.

Dr. Bondugula is a passionate medical educator who believes that physicians will be the leaders of tomorrow. Driven by this vision, he took the initiative to lead the brand-new Graduate Medical Education and Internal Medicine Residency Program at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. 

Through his dedication and leadership, Dr Chandra Bondugula transformed a non-teaching hospital into a residency program and successfully established two residency programs—Internal Medicine and Psychiatry—to help countless medical students fulfill their U.S. residency dreams.

The Residency Foundation

Dr. Bondugula was pivotal in receiving the Institutional Accreditation from ACGME to oversee and support the Internal medicine residency program with 57 residents and Psychiatry Residency Program with 20 residents.

He was involved in ACGME Institutional and residency site visits representing the Institutional Executive leadership. 

Dr. Bondugula has chaired the Graduate Medical Education Committee for seven years. He was the liaison between NAMC, ACGME, NRMP, ECFMG, and Medical boards.

Dr. Bondugula’s DIO Leadership Responsibilities

Execute the annual institutional review (AIR) process, ensuring proper orientation to ACGME policies.

Oversee residency program education and administration at the institutional level.

Lead the hiring of qualified program directors, faculty, coordinators, and GME staff.

Ensure adherence to ACGME Institutional, Program, and Specialty-Specific Requirements and Policies.

Stay current with ACGME Institutional and Program Requirements, ensuring compliance.

Provide didactic sessions on healthcare administration, operations, quality, health informatics, and innovation.
